A Story:

A native to Metro Detroit, Jennifer found herself immersed in a vast array of music from a young age, shaping her love for the craft and finding her voice through performing since the age of 5 with a microphone or a flute. Receiving the John Philip Sousa Award and a scholarship to Blue Lakes Fine Arts camp instilled confidence as she navigated the awkwardness of pre-teen life leading to countless performances in madrigal ensemble, theatre, marching band, concert ensemble and talent shows.

Following high school, Jennifer spent two years at Oakland University and another two years at Western Michigan only to feel it push her away from academia and into a life of freelance after obtaining her cosmetology license in 2009. During cosmetology school, she competed locally and nationally in trend cut/color and later placed in a national Pravana Vivids hair color competition for her creative and bold looks.

Jennifer’s obsession with music videos propelled her into a realm of cinematography, fashion and theatrics. Specializing in makeup and styling, she has worked beside photographers, cinematographers, directors and producers ranging from large corporate commercial gigs to small passionate independent collectives. She balances this work with recording, performing, directing and often editing her own music visuals in the alternative rock band, LOKELLA, writing and editing blogs for clients and maintaining a hair color clientele.

Her lifelong connection to her journals and poetry has landed her in multiple online publications and she shares her work publicly on her blog.

Today she retreats to her home in the woods in Rockford, Michigan, still scratching the paper with her pen, surrounded by a pack of dogs and often hitting hiking and mountain bike trails with her lifetime-collaborator.
